The Israeli army’s operation in the West Bank began yesterday and continues with exchanges of fire in the Nur Shams area
The Israeli forces exchanged fire with Palestinian militants in the occupied West Bank today, the second day of a deadly raid so far five people, according to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.
One of the dead was a child, according to the same source, while the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported that another 16-year-old student was killed by Israeli fire.
For their part, the Israel Defense Forces said on Saturday that they had killed 10 “terrorists” during the ongoing operation that began yesterday Friday, in the Nur Shams area, a refugee camp in the town of Tulkarem, in the north of the occupied West Bank.
The Tulkarem Brigades, which includes fighters from several Palestinian factions, said its fighters were still exchanging fire with Israeli forces today. At least three drones were seen flying over Nur Shams, where Israeli army vehicles had gathered and gunfire could be heard.
Violence in the West Bank has increased since the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza began in October with frequent Israeli raids, Palestinian street attacks and Jewish settler attacks on Palestinian villages.
The West Bank and Gaza Strip are among the areas the Palestinians seek to include in an independent Palestinian state. US-brokered peace talks collapsed ten years ago.
