Hamas reiterated its demand for Israel to end the war in Gaza as part of any deal to free hostages held there, with Sami Abu Zuhri, a senior official in the terror group, telling Reuters that US pressure on Hamas “it has no value”.

“We call for the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas in Gaza for over 200 days now,” the countries’ statement on Wednesday, which a US official described as an impressive display of unanimity.

The 18 countries all have citizens held hostage by Hamas six months after the Palestinian Islamist group’s Oct. 7 attack in southern Israel killed 1,200 people.

“The fate of the hostages and the civilian population in Gaza, who are protected by international law, is an international concern,” the text states.
