Ukraine attacked Russian military bases in Crimea with US missiles, the Russian Defense Ministry announced today.

In its statement it says that its anti-aircraft systems have intercepted six long-range ATACMS missiles in the last 24 hours.

Independent media reported that three military bases were hit overnight on Monday, injuring several people.

Several soldiers are rumored to have been injured due to a fire that broke out during an attack on an air defense position near the Crimean capital Simferopol, according to the independent website Astra.

Crimea’s Moscow-appointed governor, Sergei Aksyonov, said a missile attack on the village of Donsk near Simferopol had been intercepted. He did, however, draw attention to unexploded ordnance remnants.

Jankoe airfield in northern Crimea, which is home to a squadron of helicopters and air defense forces, came under fire again. According to media reports, five soldiers were injured there.

The Astra website reports that four soldiers were injured in an attack on a military target in the Hornsomorske district in the northwestern part of the peninsula.

The United States has announced it will supply Ukraine with long-range ATACMS missiles as part of a new aid package agreed to in Congress in April.

Previous deliveries included US missiles with a range of 165 kilometers. Simferopolis is located at a distance of more than 200 kilometers from the front line.
