The Afghanistan’s Ministry of Refugees announced today that the death toll from the flash floods that hit the northern part of the country has reached 315while more than 1,600 people have been injured.

The ministry in its post on X cited the data from its regional office in Baghlan province.

From his side Ministry of Interior said the official death toll from the floods was 153, but expected it to rise.

Thousands of houses have been damaged and farm animals have died, noted the Ministry of Refugees. Humanitarian organizations have pointed out that health structures and basic infrastructure, such as the water supply system, have been affected by the floods.

Yesterday Saturday the International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced that flash floods have killed more than 200 people in Baghlan province alone.

This spring has been particularly rainy in Afghanistan, with floods also affecting other provinces of the country, which is particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Among those particularly affected are Ghor province in the west and Badakhshan in the northeast.

Afghanistan is vulnerable to natural disasters and is considered by the UN to be one of the countries most affected by climate change.
