The repeat voting in seven electoral divisions was held following a relevant decision of the country’s Electoral Court, due to irregularities that occurred in them in the parliamentary elections of May 8
The largest Albanian party in North Macedonia, the DUI led by Ali Ahmeti, lost one seat in the repeat parliamentary elections in the country’s seven constituencies held on Wednesday.
The seat lost by DUI is won by the coalition of four opposition Albanian parties under the brand name “Axizia”, the National Electoral Commission of North Macedonia announced.
The repeat voting in seven electoral divisions was held following a relevant decision of the country’s electoral court, due to irregularities that occurred in them in the May 8 parliamentary elections.
Now, after the repeat vote, the DUI has 18 seats (as many as the outgoing ruling Social Democratic Party -SDSM-), while the “Deserves” coalition wins one seat and reaches 14.
The right-wing VMRO-DPMNE remains on 58 seats, while six seats have been secured by the nationalist, pro-Russian Left party and the newly formed Xero party of Kumanovo mayor Maxim Dimitrievsky.
The Parliament of North Macedonia consists of 120 seats.
VMRO-DPMNE leader Christian Mickoski has started negotiations with the Albanian coalition “Worth” to form a government, which provokes strong reactions from the DUI, which argues that it should be the first among the Albanian parties to participate in the new government and not the opposition Albanian coalition. An Albanian party always participates in all the governments of North Macedonia, among other things to maintain the fragile international balance in the country. Albanians make up 25% of the country’s population.
Christian Mickoski has ruled out any possibility of post-election cooperation with the DUI, which for the past 20 years has participated in all the country’s coalition governments.
