It has caused a storm of reactions the burning of the Koran, but also of other books, allegedly made by Israeli soldiers in Gaza.

The IDF Military Police are investigating incidents in which soldiers were filmed burning books, including a Koran, during operations in the enclave.

Footage of book burning they were taken by the soldiers, uploaded to social media and later reposted by Palestinian accounts. A video, reportedly taken in the Rafah area, shows an Israeli soldier holding a Koran before throwing it into a fire.

Another photo, reportedly from Aqsa University in Gaza City, shows a soldier posing in front from a shelf that has been set on fire.

In response to the incidents, the IDF reports that the Military Police have launched investigations, the findings of which will be submitted to the Military Attorney General for review.

It is emphasized that “serious” incidents “they are not consistent with the IDF’s values ​​and its protocols.” Regarding the burning of the Koran, the IDF says it “respects all religions and fully condemns such behavior.”

IDF spokesman Vice Admiral Daniel Hagari issued a statement several months ago urging soldiers not to film if the documentation does not serve an operational purpose, saying such actions they violate the orders of the army.

Despite this, and instructions from other senior officers, soldiers continue to shoot and share such videos on social media.
