Top Israeli official says he expects the war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip to continue for at least seven months. Tachi Hanegbi is the national security advisor to the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu and speaking on public Israeli radio he added that the Israeli armed forces now have under their control 75% of the neutral zone along the Israel-Gaza border.
Israel has deepened its operations in Rafah where hundreds of thousands of displaced civilians have found refuge but must now leave as war has once again reached their doorstep.
According to the Israeli army, an additional 1,000 soldiers have been added to the troops already operating in the southernmost point of the Palestinian enclave, while already one million Palestinians have left the area for their safety.
The White House still does not see a “massive ground attack” in Rafah, and as it judges that American red lines are not being violated, it is not changing its policy and continues to provide support to Israel.
Israeli troops have now advanced into residential areas of Rafah, east and south, and have reportedly approached the location of the Al-Awda Mosque in the center of the city. Reports yesterday, Wednesday, were of tanks in Tal al-Sultan, in the west, and in the central areas of Jidna and Sabura before moving back towards the border again.
Most of the civilians in the area once again pack up and leave.
Their anxiety about what will become of them runs red, and as long as Tel Aviv insists on going all the way to achieve the goals of its operations, even ignoring the International Court of Justice’s cease and desist order, there is no right answer.
Time is running out for Rafa. It is already counting down to the last hospital in the area to resume operations, with doctors warning that if Israel’s ground operation continues it will close.
According to the Hamas Health Ministry, six more hospitals have stopped operating in Rafah. These are the Al Najjar Hospital, the Kuwait Hospital, two field hospitals, the Indonesian Field Hospital and the Abu al-Walid Central Clinic.
The international community is surprised and expresses outrage, asking for a ceasefire and a plan for the next day. From Moldova, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken made it clear that “if there is no plan for tomorrow, there will be no tomorrow” and all those calling for an end are still waiting to see if Washington will act. something of all those with which he has warned Israel
