A mayor elected with the pro-Kurdish DEM party was arrested – MPs of the ruling Democracy and Development Party were shouting “down with the PKK”
The meeting on Tuesday was episodic of the Grand National Assembly in Turkey, due to the impeachment and arrest of the elected mayor of the province Hakiari in southeastern Turkey.
Police arrested the mayor on Monday Mehmet Siddiq Akis, who was elected with the pro-Kurdish DEM party over alleged links to the PKK and was replaced by the state’s governor, the interior ministry said, two months after the mayor won local elections.
The news caused the strong reaction from DEM MPs, while the MPs of the ruling party for Democracy and Development (AKP) they shouted “down with the PKK”
