Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a speech on Wednesday at the 27th International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg that the conviction of former US President Donald Trump led to an increase in his rates.
“This shows that the American people do not believe in the judicial system,” Putin said. “It is obvious to the whole world that his prosecution Trumpespecially his conviction on charges based on events that took place years ago, without direct evidence, is an abuse of the judicial system in politics,” Putin noted.
Speaking about the upcoming US elections, the Russian president argued that it does not matter to Moscow who wins, while adding that Russia “will not meddle in the US political system”.
“We will work with whatever president the American people elect,” Putin said, answering questions from international reporters on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
