North Korea is again sending balloons carrying dirt to South Korea, according to officials in Seoul.

For its part, South Korea will start again today, Sunday, broadcasting propaganda messages through loudspeakers it has installed on the border with North Korea.

A week ago, Pyongyang pledged to temporarily halt their shipment, but warned it would resume if it detected propaganda leaflets from the South.

Dozens of balloons carrying garbage were found overnight in both Seoul and areas near the border, with a South Korean military spokesman confirming they came from North Korea. He emphasized that the armed forces are on alert, since they are treating the issue “very seriously”.

Seoul has warned it will retaliate over North Korea’s waste balloon shipment. Retaliation includes, among other things, propaganda messages from huge loudspeakers set up near the border.

For its part, Pyongyang justified the action as retaliation for the sending by South Korean activists of balloons carrying leaflets against North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, USBs of music videos and TV series from South Korea, as well as US dollars.
