Lebanon’s Hezbollah-linked Minister of Public Works and Transport Ali Hami held a press conference at the airport in response to the report, dismissing the “ridiculous” claims
Lebanese whistleblowers have made allegations that Hezbollah is using Lebanon’s international airport in Beirut to store large quantities of Iranian weapons, a British newspaper reported.
According to The Telegraph, the Iranian-backed terrorist group uses Beirut-Rafik Hariri International Airport to store a variety of weapons, including ballistic missiles, unguided artillery rockets and laser-guided anti-tank missiles.
A highly explosive and toxic white powder known as RDX is also stored at the airport, according to the whistleblowers.
Lebanon’s Hezbollah-linked Minister of Public Works and Transport Ali Hami held a press conference at the airport in response to the report, dismissing the “ridiculous” claims.
Speaking to the British newspaper, an airport worker said the weapons were being flown in from Iran in “mysterious big boxes”.
“When they started going through the airport, my friends and I got scared because we knew something strange was going on,” he said, adding that the situation was “extremely serious.”
I will die for sure
According to the whistleblowers, shipments from Iran have increased dramatically since the start of the war in Gaza, leading to fears that the airport could become a military target if war breaks out between Israel and Hezbollah.
“If they keep bringing these goods that I’m not allowed to check, I really think I’ll die from the explosion or I’ll die from the Israeli bombardment,” said one of the complainants. “It’s not just us, it’s the ordinary people, the people who come in and out, go on vacation. If the airport is bombed, Lebanon is over.”
Possible answer Israel
In a statement to The Telegraph, the Israel Defense Forces said Hezbollah’s strategy of stockpiling weapons in civilian areas puts innocent people at risk during times of “escalation”.
“If Hezbollah were to target Israeli civilians from these locations, the IDF would have no choice but to respond, potentially putting Lebanese civilians at risk, provoking international outrage against the IDF,” the statement said.
