Sadikov and his wife Natalya Sadikova had been living in Ukraine since 2014 and ran a news website that was often critical of the former Kazakh president
A journalist and government critic from Kazakhstan, Aidos Sadykov, ended up in Ukraine today, his wife said, less than two weeks after he was shot dead by people who Kiev says are Kazakh nationals.
One of the suspects has since surrendered to Kazakh authorities, and the country’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has said he is ready to cooperate with Ukrainian authorities investigating the attack.
Sadikov and his wife Natalya Sadikova had been living in Ukraine since 2014 and they ran a news websitewhich was often critical of Kazakhstan’s former president Nursultan Nazarbayev and then his successor, Tokayev.
According to Ukraine’s general prosecutor’s office, two Kazakh citizens, one of whom is a former police officer, are suspected of shooting Sadykov in the head on June 18. Both left the country on the same day.
While Kazakhstan has detained one of the suspects, it has announced it will not extradite him to Ukraine. The second is still on the run.
