“I am able to know well and understand the place of racism in our country,” the Mali-born singer wrote in a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
The 29-year-old singer Aya Nakamura, the so-called queen of the French pop scene, called on voters on Tuesday to go to the polls en masse and vote against the far-right in the second round of the parliamentary elections.
“I am able to know well and understand the place of racism in our country,” the Mali-born singer wrote in a post on the X platform (formerly Twitter).
The second round of elections “is an important moment for all of us”, he says and underlines: “So on Sunday we will all go to vote against the only extreme that must be condemned, because there is only one”.
Nakamura is expected to sing at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics on July 26. After French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his hope that she would be chosen among the artists to perform at the ceremony, the 29-year-old singer has been vilified by the far-right and the target of racist attacks.
