Keir Starmer made his first statements after being re-elected in the Holborn & St Pancras constituency
Starmer, who at 2:30 London time arrived at the counting center of his constituency in North London, said he was ready to meet the trust of the citizens.
“I promise you this: whether you voted for me or not, I will serve every person in this district… Tonight the people here and across the country have spoken and are ready for change. You voted, now it’s time for us to respond”he said.
However, Mr Starmer was elected with around 10,000 fewer votes than in 2019. Once he arrived at the centre, Starmer spoke to the people gathered there while also posing and taking a few selfies with him.
After all, Labor was ultimately defeated by now-independent Jeremy Corbyn in the Islington North constituency in north London.
The defeat of the leading member of the hitherto shadowy Labor government Jonathan Ashworth, who was also one of the prominent representatives of the party in the pre-election campaign, is a big surprise. He lost the seat of Leicester South by 979 votes to independent candidate Scott Adam.
Labour’s shadow culture minister Thangam Debonaire was also defeated in Bristol Central by Greens candidate and leader Carla Dinair.
Defense Minister Grant Shapps and Education Minister Gillian Keegan lost their seats in the Conservative Party, among others.
