Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry: Hezbollah ready to withdraw behind the Litani River, on the condition that Israel’s attacks on Hezbollah facilities stop – The US is on Israel’s side
The situation in the Middle East has now reached a critical point, as Israel’s war council is meeting under the chairmanship of Benjamin Netanyahu, in order to decide whether to carry out an extensive – even ground – operation against Hezbollah on Lebanese soil, in retaliation for the rocket attack on the Golan Heights, where 12 children lost their lives.
The Western powers, among them the USAare calling for restraint, at the same time that Iran is issuing new threats of general war if Israel launches a ground attack against Hezbollah.
A solution, as a last resort, to avoid the worst scenario, comes through the mouth of the Lebanese foreign minister. Abdallah Bouhabib said today that Hezbollah is ready to withdraw behind the Litani River if Israel stops hitting its facilities. The Litani River stretches about 29 kilometers north of Israel’s border with the Lebanonwhich means that a “neutral life” is created between the two sides.
Developments, however, will be determined by the outcome of the war council in Tel Aviv, which has the US on its side. The White House condemned the rocket attack and blamed Hezbollah, saying it was their own attack and that the rocket was fired from an area they control.
It was emphasized that the Israel it has a right to defend itself against Hezbollah, with all that entails.
