At least 10 Palestinians were killed today by an Israeli airstrike on a school that offered shelter to displaced people in its neighborhood Sheikh Radwan in her town Gazaits government media office reported Hamas.

The Israeli military said the first of two West Bank strikes hit a vehicle in a town near Tulkarem and targeted a “core of militants” on their way to launch an attack.

The Hamas statement said that among the victims was a commander of the Tulkarem Brigades, while Islamic Jihad announced that the other four men killed were its fighters.

A few hours later, a second strike hit a group of militants who had opened fire on soldiers, according to what the Israeli military said was an “anti-terrorist operation” in Tulkarem. The Palestinian WAFA news agency reported that four people were killed in the strike, and Hamas confirmed that all of them were militants.

At Gaza Strip at least 10 people were killed when a school was struck in the Sheikh Radwan district. According to the Israeli military, Hamas used this school to hide its fighters and manufacture weapons. Hamas denies Israeli accusations that it operates using civilian facilities such as schools and hospitals.

Mahmoud Basal, its representative Gaza Civil Defense Service stated that in addition to the 10 dead there are also “many injured” from the bombing of the Hamama school, assuring that the building housed displaced persons.

Earlier, Israeli strikes in the Palestinian enclave killed six people in a house in Rafah and two others in Gaza City. The Israeli military says it is hitting militants and has destroyed Hamas infrastructure in Rafah and elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the Israeli delegation arrived in Cairo to continue negotiations to reach a ceasefire, according to sources at the Egyptian capital’s airport. The chances of success, however, appear slim as tensions have escalated in recent days following the death of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran on Wednesday and an Israeli strike in Beirut that killed Fouad Shukr, a senior Lebanese Hezbollah military commander. Hamas and Iran blame Israel for Haniya’s killing and have vowed revenge. Israel neither claimed responsibility nor denied it.
