Overturn in the case of the 50-year-old American woman,Lalita Kay Kumar who at the end of July was found boneless and in a miserable condition in a jungle in India, specifically in the state of Maharashtra, tied to a tree.

Lalita, who was found by a shepherd in a miserable condition, had claimed to the authorities that her husband was the one who had tied her to the tree and had left her there to die without food and water, while she herself said that she was suffering from psychological problems. That is why the authorities, after offering her first aid, then transferred her to a psychiatric clinic.

All this time, the authorities were trying to put together the pieces of the puzzle in order to understand if the 50-year-old was really telling the truth. From the beginning, however, there was a challenge to her claims. After all, Lalita admitted that she tied herself, as police officers told the BBC.

A police inspector said the 50-year-old now claims she is not married and may have been hallucinating when she gave her first statement. At the same time, she said she was upset “because her visa had expired and she had run out of money so she bought locks and chains and tied herself to the tree”.

The head of the psychiatric hospital where the 50-year-old is being treated, told the BBC that “Her condition is improving. He eats, walks and also exercises. She is being treated and we are also giving her some nutrients that were missing from her body.” The doctor emphasized that her family has been located in the US and that she is in contact with them on the phone.

It is recalled that when the rescuers reached the place where she was tied, Lalita was in a miserable condition. She was unable to speak but gave investigators a handwritten note accusing her husband of tying her up and leaving her to die without food or water. “Injection for extreme psychosis which caused an extremely locked jaw and inability to drink water. I want IV food. 40 days without food and water. Husband tied me to a tree in the forest and said I would die there” he was writing the note.

Lalita is believed to have moved to India around 10 years ago to study yoga, according to earlier reports. She was found in the jungle by a shepherd who heard her cries for help.

“The sound was coming from the forest on the mountainside. When I went there, I saw that one of her legs was tied to a tree. He screamed like an animal. I called other villagers and the local police,” the witness told the BBC.

She also had with her a mobile phone, a tablet and 31,000 rupees or $370.

The US embassy declined to comment on the case, citing the 50-year-old’s right to privacy.
