The Council of EU decided today to impose targeted restrictive measures on 22 high-ranking members of Belarus’s military personnel due to its involvement Belarus in the Russian attack against her Of Ukraine.
“Belarus’s participation in the ongoing unprovoked and unjustified military offensive against Ukraine will come at a high price. “With these measures, we are targeting those in Belarus who are complicit in the attacks on Ukraine and we are restricting trade in certain key areas,” said EU High Representative Josep Borrell.
The Council of EU Belarus supports Russian military action against Ukraine – including allowing Russia to launch ballistic missiles from its territory, allowing the transfer of Russian military personnel and heavy weapons, tanks and military vehicles, over its airspace to Ukraine, providing supply points and storing Russian weapons and military equipment on its territory.
The restrictive measures now apply to a total of 702 individuals and 53 entities in Belarus and include the seizure of assets and a travel ban on entry or exit through EU territory.
In addition, in relation to Belarus, the Council today introduced further restrictions on trade in goods used in the manufacture or manufacture of tobacco products, fossil fuels, bituminous and gaseous hydrocarbon products, potassium chloride products, wood products, cement products, iron and steel products and products rubber. Further restrictions were also imposed on exports of dual-use goods and technology and certain advanced goods and technology that may contribute to Belarus’s military, technological development, defense and security development, as well as restrictions on the provision of related services.
Today’s decisions complement the package announced by the High Representative following the EU Foreign Ministers’ teleconference on 27 February.
