Actor Gérard Depardieu, who will stand trial in October on charges of sexually assaulting two women on set, is now at risk of a second trial after Paris prosecutors recommended he be brought before a criminal court for raping and sexually assaulting the actress. Charlotte Arnoul.

Confirming a report by the BFMTV news channel, the prosecutor’s office said that on August 14 it requested the French actor to be put on trial for the rape and sexual abuse of Arnoul, now 28, on August 7 and 13, 2018, at his home in Paris.

The 75-year-old actor has been under investigation for this case since December 2020, following the complaint lodged against him by Arnul. It is up to the investigator in charge of the case to decide whether to grant the prosecution’s request.

One of Depardieu’s lawyers, contacted by AFP, did not respond.

In an open letter published in Le Figaro newspaper in October 2023, Depardieu, who has also been accused by other women, denied any wrongdoing.

I never abused a woman for drinking“, he said then, commenting on Arnoul’s complaints.

A woman came to my house one time, with a light step and went up of her own accord to my room. Today he says he was rushed. There was never any coercion or violence between us“, he argued.

Depardieuwho has been awarded the César for best actor twice, was for many years considered the “holy beast” of French cinema and is famous worldwide.

He will stand trial in October for sexually assaulting two women on the set of Jean Becker’s 2021 film The Green Shutters.

A former assistant also sued him in January, alleging he molested her on the set of Jean-Pierre Mocky’s 2014 film The Wizard and the Siamese. That case was eventually dropped due to the statute of limitations.

Another lawsuit by actress Ellen Daras for raping her by Depardieu on the set of a movie in 2007 was also filed for the same reason.
