EU: suspends cooperation and research programs with Russia and Belarus due to Russian invasion of Ukraine

THE European Commission announced today that suspended the cooperation and research programs with the Russia and Belarus due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The EU finances There are currently eight cooperation programs with Russia, contributing a total of € 178 million to support sustainable development in the border regions.

THE suspension cooperation means that no further payments will be made to Russia under these programs.

The Brussels interrupted also two cooperation programs with the Belaruswhich had a total budget of EUR 257 million.

In a separate development, the EU decided to suspend the cooperation with Russian entities in areas of researchscience and innovation.

This means that payments in the context of existing projects freeze and no new contracts can be signed with Russian organizations in these areas, said Commission.

However, no project under the EU’s flagship research program, Horizon Europe, has so far involved Russian organizations.

Preparations were under way for the granting of grants to four projects involving Russian research organizations, but this work has now been suspended.
