At least 27 people have been killed in operations in the West Bank, according to the Palestinian Authority
The Israeli army continued today, Tuesday for the seventh consecutive day, its operations in the northern West Bank, where at least 27 people have been killed, according to the Palestinian Authority’s health ministry.
The army on August 28 launched a major operation, which it calls “anti-terror” in several cities in the occupied West Bank, where armed groups fighting the Israeli occupation operate.
“There are 30 dead and around 130 injured in the West Bank since (last) Wednesday,” the Health Ministry said in a statement.
Included in this tally are three people who were killed in the Hebron area, not during the army’s operation but under different circumstances. One of them was allegedly the perpetrator of an attack that claimed the lives of three Israelis.
The military operation is centered on the city of Jenin
On Monday, the military announced that in this “anti-terrorist operation” its forces had killed 14 militants and that “25 terrorists” had been arrested. According to the ministry, 18 people were killed in Jenin.
Today, in a separate statement, the ministry said a 16-year-old girl was killed by the army in Kfar Dan, a village under the Jenin governorate. It was not specified if the teenager was among the 18, nor when she was killed.
In Tulkarem, near Jenin, the army said on Monday it had hit a group of Palestinian fighters who “fired on security forces during the counter-terrorist operation”. Tulkarem Hospital reported that a 15-year-old boy was killed in this strike while his father and four other people were injured. According to the Palestinian Red Crescent, his teams provided first aid to several people on the spot, including an injured rescuer.
Early today, a little further south, Israeli forces penetrated the Birzeit campus, near Ramallah, and seized items belonging to the student council.
Since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, last year in October, the tension has also escalated in the West Bank where at least 637 Palestinians (based on the UN count) and 23 Israelis (based on official Israeli figures) have been killed.
