The death toll has reached 197 due to floods and landslides caused by typhoon Yagi, which mainly affected northern Vietnam.
At least 128 other people are missing, while agricultural crops covering an area of more than two and a half million hectares were destroyed, according to an official tally released by the Ministry of Agriculture earlier. A previous count, which was made public yesterday, spoke of 155 dead.
About 800 other people were injured.
Parts of the capital Hanoi remain flooded today, while landslides continue to be reported in parts of the north.
Typhoon Yagi, the strongest in Asia this year, made landfall last Saturday.
Authorities in the capital hurriedly evacuated thousands of residents from their homes, especially those near swollen rivers, as the waters reached their highest levels in two decades in recent days.
The governments of various countries, including those of Australia, Japan and the US, pledged aid to Vietnam after Typhoon Yagi hit.
