Tesla: Received the final license to operate its giga-plant in Brandenburg

by

The final license for the operation of its factory in Brandenburg was obtained by the American car manufacturer Tesla, although under many conditions. Production is expected to begin in the coming weeks.

Two years after the start of the construction of the first “giga-factory” of Tesla in Europe, the construction of the electric cars of the company of Elon Musk is expected to start soon. The Brandenburg State Environmental Service, however, which yesterday issued the final approval of the plan, has handed over to Tesla a package of 400 conditions, which must be met before it can start operating. Among them is the provision for the protection of drinking water and the control of air pollution, but also a plan for the prevention of accidents. Until the final licensing, 800 objections were examined by individuals and organizations. “For us, the approval process was a mammoth project,” said Brandenburg Environment Minister Axel Vogel, explaining that part of the new plant is located in a water protection area.

However, the Prime Minister of the state Dietmar Vojdke expressed his satisfaction for the project with a view to the jobs that are being created in a former eastern state. “We are no longer the extension of the West’s workbench. “The factory will need 12,000 employees in the first phase”, he pointed out.

Tesla originally intended to start production in mid-2021, but the required approval was repeatedly postponed, in part because the company itself was changing its original plans. The factory was eventually built under the responsibility of the company itself and only with preliminary permits. But when production begins, the plant will be able to build 500,000 cars a year, while the new plant is expected to build the new type of battery that will be used by Tesla.
