The Israeli military has confirmed the launch of airstrikes against the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen. In particular, the Israeli military launched strikes against the port and electricity infrastructure of Hodaida, a city in western Yemen controlled by the Houthi rebels.

According to the military, dozens of Israeli Air Force aircraft, including fighter jets, refueling and spy planes, took part in the raids around 1,800 kilometers from Israel.

The strikes targeted sites used by the Houthi regime for military purposes in Hodeidah and the nearby port of Ras Issa in western Yemen, the IDF said.

“The armed forces attacked power plants and a port, which are used to import oil. Through the targeted infrastructure and ports, the Houthi regime transports Iranian weapons into the region and supplies for military purposes, including oil,” the military said.

The IDF emphasizes that the strikes were carried out in response to recent Houthi ballistic missile attacks on Israel, including three this month.

This is Israel’s second attack on Yemen. It was preceded by another last July.

“For us, no place is too far”

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who watched Israeli airstrikes against the Houthis in Yemen from the air force command and control room, tells Platform X: “The message is clear, for us, no place is too far.”

Footage posted on social media shows smoke rising from the area.

The Houthis, allies of Iran and Hezbollah, had opened a front against Israel in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza. On Saturday, they claimed responsibility for launching a missile targeting Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport.

Residents of Hodaida said the strikes caused blackouts in many parts of the city.

The Houthis said yesterday that the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah would “strengthen their resolve” to attack Israel.

Since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, the Houthis have launched numerous attacks on Israel, and in July, a drone strike in Tel Aviv killed a civilian. They often target merchant ships, which they say are linked to Israel, the US or Britain, in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The US has launched strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, sometimes with the help of the British military.

Condemns Iran

Iran condemned Israel’s strikes on the Yemeni port of Hodeidah on Sunday, saying they targeted a power plant and fuel tanks, the country’s foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said.

More specifically, sirens sounded yesterday afternoon in central Israel, including Tel Aviv, after a missile was launched from Yemen.

The Israeli military confirmed that a missile was fired, possibly by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, that was headed for Israeli territory but was intercepted by air defenses.

According to the Houthis’ announcement, they fired a ballistic missile at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport during the arrival of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
