“Today we are fighting for a secure future full of prosperity for our children and grandchildren – Truth is on our side,” he added
The Russian president Vladimir Putin assured on Monday that Moscow “will achieve all its goals” in Ukraineon the occasion of the second anniversary of the annexation by Russia four Ukrainian regions.
“The truth is on our side. All goals will be achieved,” Putin said in a videotaped speech, congratulating the Russian people on the occasion of the “Day of Reunification” with the Ukrainian provinces of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia and Kherson, which is celebrated today, September 30.
Putin called the invasion of Ukraine “a fatal event” that was necessary to protect the Russian-speaking residents of those provinces against “neo-Nazi dictatorship” and “extreme nationalism.”
“We have not abandoned our brothers and sisters,” he stressed, once again defending “the necessity and legitimacy of the special military operation” — the term used by Russia to describe its invasion of Ukraine.
“Today we are fighting for a safe future full of prosperity for our children and grandchildren,” Putin emphasized.
On September 30, 2022, the Russian president signed the relevant decree formalizing the annexation of these four Ukrainian regions, which Moscow partially controls. Residents of these provinces voted to be annexed by Russia in referendums that have not been recognized by Ukraine and the international community.
