A ship was hit today by a drone off its coast Yemeniwhere the rebels Houthi have been attacking merchant shipping for months, the UK Maritime Trade Operations Center (UKMTO) has announced.

“A ship was hit by a drone. Ballast tank number 6 was punctured,” he said.

The UKMTO had earlier reported four explosions near the same ship.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

The incident occurred 64 nautical miles northwest of Hodeidah, a Houthi-controlled city that was targeted by Israeli airstrikes on Sunday.

The shelling, which mainly hit the city’s port and a power station, left five dead and 67 wounded, according to the Houthis.

The UKMTO added that the ship’s crew are safe and sound.

British maritime security firm Ambrey said it was aware of the incident, the second in three hours, and was investigating.

According to the company, the merchant ship was hit 97 nautical miles northwest of Hodeida and confirmed that its ballast tank was hit.

Iran-backed Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for several rocket attacks on Israel since the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, claiming they are acting in solidarity with the Palestinians.

They also attack ships believed to be linked to Israel in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

Those missile and drone attacks have disrupted traffic in that maritime area critical to global trade, prompting the United States to build an international maritime coalition and strike rebel targets in Yemen, sometimes with the help of the U.K. Basilio.
