“For a year they’ve been watching Gaza turn into rubble and wondering if Lebanon will suffer the same fate,” Damon told CNN’s Michael Holmes.

“I can’t even begin to describe to you, Michael, the depth and breadth of the fear that exists here, because everyone is watching what’s happening in Gaza,” said Damon, a former CNN reporter whose organization helps children in war zones.

Aid workers are racing to respond to an unprecedented crisis while experiencing it themselves, he added.

Many have lost loved ones or been forced to flee their homes, along with about a fifth of Lebanon’s population, Damon said.

“The psychological impact of all this is just devastating,” he says.
