Olena Zelenska: The letter of the “first lady” of Ukraine about the war

by

Ukraine’s first lady, Olena Zelenska, posted an open letter on her Facebook page, reflecting on what happened in Ukraine in the last two weeks since the Russian invasion.

“Despite assurances from Kremlin-backed propagandists calling it a ‘special operation’, it is in fact a mass murder of Ukrainian civilians,” Zelenska said.

In her long letter she pointed out: “Perhaps the most frightening and destructive of this invasion are the children. Eight-year-old Alice who died on the streets of Oktirka while her grandfather was trying to protect her. “14-year-old Arseniy was hit in the head by debris and could not be saved because an ambulance could not reach him in time due to the intense fires.”

“The first newborn of the war, he saw the concrete ceiling of the basement, his first breath was the hard air of the basement and they were welcomed by a community trapped and terrified. “At this point, there are dozens of children who have never experienced peace in their lives,” he wrote.

The First Lady of Ukraine also discussed the challenges of providing basic medical care, as well as the growing influx of refugees.

He said Russian President Vladimir Putin had underestimated the resistance of Ukrainians.

“While the Kremlin propagandists boasted that the Ukrainians would greet them with flowers as saviors, they have been avoided with Molotov cocktails,” he wrote.

Zelenska also thanked people from all over the world for supporting her country.

She even mentioned her husband’s demands for a no-fly zone over Ukraine. “Close the skies and we will manage the war on the ground ourselves,” he said.

He concluded: “I testify and tell the world: the war in Ukraine is not a war ‘out there’.” “This is a war in Europe, near the borders of the EU. Ukraine is stopping the force that can aggressively enter your cities tomorrow under the pretext of rescuing civilians.”

“If we do not stop Putin, who is threatening to start a nuclear war, there will be no safe place in the world for any of us,” he said.
