The US has decided to deploy additional military forces in the Middle East, which will arrive “in the coming months” for the “protection of Israel” and as a warning to Iran, the US Pentagon announced yesterday Friday.

The head of the Pentagon, General E.A. Lloyd Austin, “continues to make clear that if Iran, its partners or organizations close to it take advantage of this moment to target US (military) personnel or interests in the region,” Washington “will take all necessary measures to defend our people”, the press release published by a representative of the Ministry of Defense emphasizes.

Assets to be deployed in the region include anti-ballistic missile systems, fighters, B-52 long-range bombers and other military aircraft.

The US is Israel’s main international ally, which it says is waging war against Iran and its allies in the region, starting with the Gaza Strip war against Hamas from October 7, 2023. The war has now spread to Lebanon against Hezbollah since September 23.

Israel’s air force launched a strike against military targets in Iran on October 26, in retaliation for the Islamic Republic’s firing of some 200 rockets into Israeli territory on October 1.
