“I have greatly enjoyed and appreciated working with them in the past, and would like to thank them for their service to our country,” Trump wrote in a post.
US President-elect Donald Trump said on Saturday that he does not intend to ask Nikki Haley (former US ambassador to the UN, who had contested the Republican presidential nomination) and Mike Pompeo (former secretary of state) to participate in his government.
“I have greatly enjoyed and appreciated working with them in the past, and would like to thank them for their service to our country,” Trump wrote in a social media post.
Donald Trump is considering nominations to staff his administration ahead of his January 20 inauguration.
Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina who served as the US ambassador to the UN during Trump’s presidency, had endorsed his candidacy in the campaign despite harshly criticizing him when she herself was vying for the Republican nomination.
Mike Pompeo – who, before becoming head of US diplomacy, had also served as director of the CIA during Trump’s presidency – was among the candidates for the Department of Defense. Until the announcement of nominations for the nomination of the Republican Party, political analysts believed that Pompeo would participate in the primary race, but in April 2023 he announced that he would not be a candidate.
