Donald Trump has announced the return of Tom Homan, the former director of the federal agency responsible for the protection of border and immigration (ICE), to lead the agency.

“I am pleased to announce that stalwart supporter of border control Tom Homan will join the Trump administration in which he will be in charge of our nation’s borders – ‘border czar,'” the Republican tycoon said via his platform, Truth Social.

Trump’s selection of the 62-year-old Homan – an immigration hardliner – for the key post was widely expected.

The newly elected president has promised a mass deportation of undocumented immigrants and fully trusts the 62-year-old for this job and border control.

“I have known Tom for a long time and there is no one better at policing and controlling our borders,” Trump tweeted.

Homan’s duties will include overseeing the borders with Mexico and Canada, as well as the US coastline and airspace, he said.

Tom Homan will also be responsible for all deportations of illegal aliens back to their country of origin.

In his second week in office in 2017, Trump appointed Homan as deputy director of ICE. In November of that year, Trump nominated him to be the permanent director of ICE, but the Senate never acted on his nomination.
