According to the well-known defense website, The Defense Post, Germany has started the process of selling Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets to Turkey.

An agency responsible for sales has been ordered to expedite the potential sale of 40 jets, Reuters reported, citing a Turkish Defense Ministry source.

“Technical work continues on the procurement of the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, which can be an alternative solution to meet the operational needs of our Air Force,” the same source said.

Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler had recently announced that Berlin had lifted its opposition to the Eurofighter sale thanks to efforts by the UK, Spain and Italy.

The three countries are members of the Eurofighter consortium that builds the aircraft together with Germany. The Eurofighter is seen as an interim solution for Turkish military needs until the under-development fifth-generation Kaan is ready for operations.
