Trump called him a “warrior for free speech” and wants to “take back control” of big tech companies
THE Donald Trump announced yesterday Sunday his intention to appoint head of the telecommunications regulatory body (FCC) Brendan Carr, whom he described as a “fighter for freedom of expression”, man who supports Elon Musk and wants to “take back control” of the big tech companies.
Mr. Carr is a “warrior for freedom of expression,” the president-elect said in a press release announcing the upcoming appointment.
Brendan Carr immediately hit back via X, first “thanking” the “(elect) president,” then insisting that “we must dismantle the censorship cartel” he says is imposed by tech giants like Facebook, Google, Apple and Microsoft , and to “restore the right to free speech to ordinary Americans.”
Mr. Carr has been with the FCC since 2012. He has been one of its commissioners since 2017, appointed to the position by Mr. Trump during his first term. Previously, he worked as a lawyer specializing in regulatory issues.
“He will end the onslaught of regulation that has crippled America’s job creators and innovation, and make sure the FCC meets the needs of rural America,” Mr. Trump assured.
Brendan Carr is enjoying the support of Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, whom Donald Trump has named to head a commission he’s creating for “government efficiency.” He had particularly opposed the FCC’s decision to end large public aid to Starlink, one of the multibillionaire’s companies, the New York Times recalled.
“In my view, this was nothing more than regulatory retaliation against one of the left’s key targets: Mr. Musk,” he argued in an Oct. 14 Wall Street Journal op-ed.
Brendan Carr is also the author of the telecommunications chapter of “Plan 2025,” a nearly 900-page document compiled by the conservative think tank Heritage Foundation that many assume is actually a road map for reestablishing the federal state on of Mr. Trump’s days in office.
“The FCC must change course” and “achieve four key goals: take back control of the big tech companies, defend national security, unleash economic prosperity, and ensure its accountability and good governance,” he said. in this text.
