London, Thanasis Gavos
OR Metropolitan Police of London announced that he has put more than five people in his circle under investigation Mohammed Al Fayed who are believed to have possibly assisted him in committing the sexual offenses of which dozens of women have accused him.
The allegations against the tycoon former owner of Harrods were revealed by a BBC documentary. Police had already received complaints from 21 women before the documentary aired and have since been approached by a further 90 women.
The Egyptian billionaire died last year without ever facing legal action.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the investigation will examine what role the suspects may have played “in facilitating or enabling the commission of the offences” of Al Fayed, as well as “what opportunities they had to protect the victims from the appalling abuse”.
At the same time, an internal police investigation is underway to determine whether past investigations into Al Fayed suffered from errors and omissions.
