This FAA decision is being implemented proactively, after “necessary infrastructure partners (…) requested that temporary restrictions be imposed”
US authorities today announced restrictions on drone flights over critical infrastructure in the state of New Jersey, where sightings of unidentified drones have dominated the news and caused concern since late November.
“At the request of federal safety partners, the FAA has issued 22 temporary flight restrictions banning flights drone over sensitive infrastructure in New Jersey“, states a press release.
The restrictions will be in place until January 17thaccording to the FAA’s website, which does not explain the timing.
“There is no public safety threat related to the recorded drone sighting incidents“, the Ministry of Internal Security pointed out again today.
This FAA decision is being implemented as a precaution, after “necessary infrastructure partners (…) requested that temporary flight restrictions be imposed over their facilities,” the department said in a press release, without naming the facilities in question.
These drones, which have been spotted for weeks in the northeastern part of the country, have raised concerns among residents about possible foreign interference and led to accusations of a cover-up by the US government.
Authorities, including the Pentagon and the US Federal Police, stepped up announcements and interventions to calm fears.
“We have not identified anything unusual and do not believe the activity to date poses a national or public safety risk over the civil airspace of New Jersey or other states in the NortheastThe FAA, the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI and the Pentagon said in a joint statement this week.
“After carefully reviewing the technical data and information received from citizens, we estimate that the sightings to date include a mix of legitimate commercial drones, amateur drones and law enforcement drones, as well as manned fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters and stars mistaken for drones“, underlined in the text.
The video of mysterious aerial phenomena continue to circulate with their observation reported in the states of New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Virginia.
