Struggle for the fate of 29-year-old Cecilia Sala, who has been held for ten days in Iranian prisons, after reporting on everyday life in the country of the Ayatollahs
Response from Rome
The arrest, in Tehran, of the Italian journalist Cecilia Sala has caused enormous concern. Twenty-nine years old, Sala collaborates with the newspaper Il Foglio, with the private TV channel La 7 and records a Podcast on international politics and current affairs.
She was arrested on December 19, while she was preparing to return to Italy, after two weeks in the Iranian capital. He tried to emphasize unseen aspects of the daily life of citizens, with details of journalistic interest.
The prisons of terror
To date, no official charges have been brought against the Italian envoy. What we do know is that she is incarcerated in the prisons of Evin, together with political prisoners, under inhumane conditions. The lights never go out, each cell is crammed with seven or more prisoners, and there are constant screams of torture. The Italian reporter was only allowed to talk by phone for a few seconds with her mother and to meet, yesterday, the Italian ambassador in Tehran.
Retaliation by Tehran?
“We are following the whole case from the first moment. We are working towards the release of Cecilia, care and secrecy are needed,” said Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. According to the press, it is not excluded that this is retaliation by Tehran, due to the arrest, two weeks ago, at Milan airport, of the Iranian Mohammad Abedini Nazafabadi. He had just arrived in the Italian co-capital from Istanbul and is accused of arms trafficking. The warrant for his arrest was issued by the United States.
Disturbing reports?
The regime of the Ayatollahs, however, may also have been disturbed by a comment by Cecilia Sala, on Instagram: next to the photo of the Iranian actress Zeinab Moussavin, on December 18, the Italian envoy wrote: “Zeinab was arrested for what a mask said, one of the faces of her various sketches. Since then, he has collected a series of amusing jokes about the life of prisoners. He managed to turn the days he spent in isolation into laughter.” Now, however, in the regime’s barbaric logic of revenge, in the torture cells, is the young, Italian journalist.
