US President-elect Donald Trump today publicly expressed his support for Mike Johnson, who will seek re-election to the presidency of the House of Representatives, where the Republicans hold a majority.

As Donald Trump states in his post on the Truth Social platform, Mike Johnson “is a good, hard-working and religious man. He will do what is right and we will still win. Mike has my full and undivided support,” concluding with the signature slogan “MAGA” (“Make America Great Again”).

The House of Representatives will elect a president on Friday, after the members of the new Congress are sworn in. Trump’s support was essential for Johnson to claim re-election to the seat he has held since October 2023. As speaker of the US House, he will work closely with Trump, who returns to the White House and takes office on January 20th.

A few days ago, 34 Republicans had voted against the bill for the temporary funding of the federal mechanism presented by Mike Johnson, considering that it favored the Democrats. Therefore, doubts were expressed about their support for Johnson’s candidacy.

Republicans hold the majority (219-215) in the House of Representatives, which means that the outcome of the vote depends on their unanimity.
