The Ukrainian military destroyed a series of Russian military helicopters at Kherson International Airport on Tuesday, according to new satellite images from Planet Labs.
A large black column of smoke appears to be rising from the airport in the satellite image, with a number of helicopters on fire.

In a magnified part of the image, helicopters are seen burning.
It is the most devastating known strike by the Ukrainian army against Russian helicopters during the war, with at least three Russian helicopters appearing to be on fire or destroyed at the airport.
Military vehicles seen near the airport have also been hit.

CNN verified the authenticity of the image.
The military strike at the airport was carried out by NASA’s Firefighting Information Management System (FIRMS), which monitors major fires around the world.
According to sensory data collected by FIRMS, the military strike occurred around 1:42 p.m. Local time.
