Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski hopes the US and Europe to participate in any talks aimed at ending his country’s war with Russia, as reporters told reporters today.

At a joint press conference with Maya Sandu’s Moldovan counterpart, Zelenski said Ukraine still needs to participate in any talks to end the war in order to have a positive impact of such negotiations.

“As for what the talks will be: Ukraine, I really hope Ukraine is there, America, Europe and the Russians,” Zelenski said, clarifying that the framework has not yet been clarified.

“Yes, I would really like Europe to participate, because we will become EU members“

As Zelenski pointed out, he believes that new US President Donald Trump may end the war, but will only be able to do so if he let Ukraine participate in the talks.

“Only with Ukraine can he do this, otherwise he won’t succeed because Russia does not want the war to end, while Ukraine wants,” he explained.

During his election campaign, Trump pledged to end the war within 24 hours of taking over the presidency, but since then his advisers have said that an agreement may take months to achieve.

However, Trump has expressed his intention to talk to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin about ending the war.

Yesterday, Putin said he would like to meet with Trump to discuss Ukraine and cited an obstacle to the negotiations of a 2022 decree of Zelenski banning talks with Putin.

At a press conference, Zelenski clarified that this ban for the stopping to stop Putin from creating other channels of communication with interlocutors in Ukraine and noted that Moscow was actively trying to do so before he signed the decree.
