The small jihadist organization Huras Al Dean, Al Qaeda’s Syrian offshoot, announced its breakdown online today, explaining that it made the decision after the fall of Bashar al -Assad’s regime.

This group, included in the US list with “terrorist organizations”, said that its dissolution was “by decision of the al -Qaeda general administration”.

Al Qaeda has not announced who took over her leadership after the death of her chief, Aiman al -Zawau, from a US hit in 2022.

Huras Al Dean, who for the first time declares “al -Qaeda’s offshoot in Syria”, added that her dissolution was decided “in the light of developments” in Syria.

The rebel coalition, led by the radical Islamist organization Hayat Tahrir Al Sam (HTS), took power in Damascus after overthrowing Assad on December 8th. The new Syrian authorities have expressed the desire to dismantle all armed organizations.

Huras Al Dean, who included foreign jihadists, was based in the mountain zones of northwestern Syria, with an area considered a stronghold of the rebels. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, “it announced its dissolution so that it would not get involved in an armed conflict with HTS”.

Huras Al Dein was founded in February 2018, about two years after the al -Nosra front (the transformation of which is HTS) was ruptured with the “parent” al -Qaeda. It is considered a terrorist organization by the US and its chief has been approved by the Ministry of Finance. Last August, the US Armed Forces announced that they had killed a high -ranking executive, Abu Abdul Rahman al -Maki, accusing him of being responsible for “terrorist acts in Syria”.
