The Los Angeles County Prosecutor, Nathan Hellmanstated on Friday that he is opposed to the new trial of Lail and Eric Menendez After 35 years of imprisonment for the murder of their parents with a shotgun.

As the news agency reports ReutersHell, at a press conference, expressed doubts about whether the Menendez brothers had been sexually abused by their parents – the abuse the brothers say they motivated them to kill their parents in 1989.

The Menendez brothers were convicted in 1996 for first -degree murder and were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of release.

The case captivated the US, but also the whole planet, in the 1990s due to the wealth and privileges of the brothers as record labels and executives of the entertainment industry. A recent Netflix documentary series brought new elements and rejuvenated the public’s interest.

The previous Los Angeles prosecutor, George Gaskonhe asked last year to release the brothers by condemning them for a lesser crime, saying that had paid their debt to society And arguing that his best understanding now how sexual abuse affects victims played a big role in their thinking.

And while the judicial hearings that would affect the possible release of the brothers were pending, the Judge of the Los Angeles Supreme Court Michael Jessic postponed the hearing for March 20th.

Hellman said on Friday that he had not yet decided whether the brothers should be convicted of a smaller crime that would result in their release from prison.

Brothers’ request for new trials was based on new evidence proving that they had been sexually abused by their parents, including of a letter allegedly sent one of the brothers to a cousin of theirin which he had detailed abuse.

However, Hohman said on Friday that The authenticity of this letter cannot be provenone main reason he said to oppose any new brothers’ trial.

“We support in many different ways that they are not reliable elements,” Helling told reporters about the letter.

Added that if the letter “There was, the defense lawyer would have used her in the trial.”

Hellman said that by reviewing the case, he found that the brothers had changed their story five times about what happened on the night of murders and that they did not raise the issue of sexual abuse only after two different versions of the police told the police led to the death of their parents.

He said he had testified on Friday, which was opposed to referring the brothers to a new trial.

A group of members of the Menendez family who asked for their release severely criticized Hellman.

“Open the wounds we spent decades trying to heal. He didn’t hear us. We are deeply disappointed with his comments, in which he essentially “tore” the new elements and defamed the brothers), “ The family members mentioned in a written statement.

Hellman said his office in the coming weeks would issue an opinion on whether the brothers should be convicted of a lesser crime. The defense asked to be condemned for voluntary homicidewhich would result in their release.
