A flight from American Airlines from New York heading to Delhi heads to Rome on Sunday after an email bomb threat. After the bomb threat, the flight is scheduled to land at Rome Airport for control.

The flight, with 285 passengers, will take off for Delhi after receiving a security permit at Rome Airport, according to sources.

Boeing 787 took off from New York’s KJFK Airport.

According to foreign media during the flight, crew members received information on a possible explosive mechanism on the aircraft, prompting immediate response to international air safety protocols.

A spokesman for American Airlines in a statement confirmed the threat of a bomb and stressing that “passenger and crew security remains the top priority of the airline”.

Emergency procedures began

According to Airnav radar surveillance services, the flight made a sharp diversion over the Mediterranean Sea, heading to Rome for forced landing. The flight is currently being watched in real time on Airnav radar as it is approaching Italian airspace.

The Italian authorities, including the Aeroporti di Roma emergency and law enforcement services, are on alarm and have developed specialized units for managing the situation upon arrival of the plane. The bombs neutralization units are expected to carry out a thorough inspection of the aircraft as soon as it landed.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and European Air Traffic Control have been notified and the adjacent flight routes are being monitored to ensure the minimum interruption of air traffic in the area.

Depending on the investigation, passengers can either board the same aircraft again or offered alternative flights to New Delhi. Delays are expected and American Airlines has confirmed that accommodation will be provided if needed.
