“We work very hard to put an end to the war, the process is evolving quickly,” the US president said characteristically
US President Donald Trump, at a press conference with British Prime Minister Kir Starmer, said the deal on rare land with Ukraine would form the basis for future relations between the two countries.
In his statements, he stressed that US taxpayers “will be substantially compensated for the money spent in Ukraine”, noting that the deal would help in the US economic recovery.
At the same time, Trump emphasized that he was making strong efforts to end the war in Ukraine, noting that the negotiations are moving rapidly.
“We work very hard to put an end to the war, the process is evolving quickly,” he said.
The deal is expected to be signed during Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski tomorrow morning.
At the same time, the US president said the war in Ukraine highlights the importance of defense investments by NATO member states, stressing the need for increased military spending.
“There is an urgent need for some countries to cover the difference,” he said, stressing that some members of the alliance have not met their financial obligations in the field of defense.
For his part, British Prime Minister Kir Starmer said he had discussed with Donald Trump about the peace deal on Ukraine, which would be “tough but fair”.
Starmer stressed that the United Kingdom is ready to deploy “troops on the ground and aircraft in the air” to support the deal, underlining Britain’s commitment to ensuring stability in the region.
Asked, however, about security guarantees to Ukraine, Kir Starmer said that “an agreement on peace must be reached first”.
