The options that the Ukrainian president has are only two, Constantine Filis appreciates – the way in which Trump and Vance spoke to
When Volodimir Zelenski arrived at the White House on Friday afternoon, the American-Ukrainian relations were fragile. When he left shortly afterwards, and even badly, the relationships were now dissolved.
Following the shipwreck of talks and the attack by Zelenski from Twin Trump – Vance inside the Oval Office, the Ukrainian President returns to his country, having in his luggage the following dilemma: either to accept a bad deal with the US, or to risk him. These are the two options for the Ukrainian president, as the Constantine FilisProfessor of International Relations, in his analysis published by kathimerini.gr.
According to Mr Filis, the US president is not concerned with the terms and conditions of the intended peace. In Trump’s mind, Putin is the one who facilitates him And Zelenski who, on the contrary, stands in the way of an obstacle.
Concerning the attack that Zelenky received in the Oval Office, Mr. Filis estimates that It is not accidental that both Trump and Vice President Jay Di Vance talked about. “It was as if they had prepared the attacks that would launch against the Ukrainian leader, knowing very well that all this would be in front of the cameras.” He says.
He also estimates that anyone who chooses to stand in the way of Trump’s plans, finds his trouble and that for the US president, Zelenski is now burnt paper and has “finished” politically, while in terms of Russia he notes that after developments on American territory he could even be more.
The whole analysis of Constantine’s friend
Donald Trump seems to have adopted the Putin line, according to which Zelenski is an obstacle to peace in Ukraine.
The US president is not concerned with the terms and conditions of the seeking peace. That is why he is not interested in providing security guarantees in Kyiv. What he wants to succeed and is soon a truce agreement that will allow him to differentiate himself from his predecessor, Joe Biden, and to release the US from the Ukrainian front.
In Trump’s mind, Putin is the one who facilitates him and Zelenski who, on the contrary, stands in the way of an obstacle. It should be noted that the US president is alleged to put in the same category as Zelenski and Europeans, whom he also considers a deterrent to the extent that they do not accept a quick solution. It is obvious, however, that anyone who chooses to stand in the way of Trump’s plans finds his trouble.
The Trump-Chalenski conflict, which took place in front of the cameras in the Oval Office, could also be seen as the relief of the tension that Trump had recently accumulated at the expense of Zelenski.
The US president may not be interested in the terms of possible peace and whether she justifies instead of punishing Putin’s Russia, but is interested in the agreement that would give him access to Ukraine minerals and considers Volodimir Zelenski even creating obstacles. “You were unknown,” he was told.
It is not a coincidence that the Americans talked to Zelenski, not only Trump but also Vice President Jay Di Vance. It was as if they had prepared the attacks that would launch against the Ukrainian leader, knowing very well that all this would be in front of the cameras. One of their repulsions, revealed by Vance, was the support that Zelenski provided to the Democratic pre -election.
For Trump, Zelenski is now a burned paper and is politically “finished”. To date, one could say that he was bullying, calling the “dictator”, inviting him to go to the elections and pressing him to sign the mineral agreement. After today, it is now clear that this US-Russian-Russian triangular relationship will not work unless the Ukrainian president immediately captures.
For Volodimir Zelenski on the other hand, today’s conflict with the US president could be an “opportunity” of heroic exit, an “opportunity” for a diplomatic resalto. Zelenski no longer has choices, or he probably sees his choices shrink dangerously. Now he should somehow address the Ukrainian people. If he wants to make it even more heroic his possible exit, he could now appeal to elections or a referendum. The Ukrainian people can support him and rally around him after today’s Trump attacks. The same can be done by some – not all – by Europeans. Even in such a case, however, his future is specified.
And this is because only European aid is not enough to continue to fight Ukraine. On the contrary, without American assistance, if it is interrupted, not only at the weapons level but even more at the Intelligence/Information level, things will become much more difficult in the near future for the Ukrainian leadership.
It is worth noting that since Trump took over the US presidency, Russian attacks have intensified Kiev, which is hit almost daily by enemy drones and mourned dead. After today, Russia could be further discouraged, intensifying its attacks.
In the light of today’s shipwreck, Zelensky is called upon to either accept a bad deal (“Zelenski can return to the White House when he is ready for peace” according to Trump), or risk a deterioration in the business field. It is time for Europeans to stand up to the circumstances. It is the last and only refuge for Ukraine and its president. But even if they rally around Kiev and Zelensky (we already have to exclude countries such as Hungary and Slovakia), their support may not drastically change the course of things.
