The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson reportedly instructed British government officials to assess the practical feasibility and value of a trip to Kyiv.

According to the Daily Mail, with this “lightning trip” Mr. Johnson would like to show his support in practice and see President Zelensky up close, for whom he has often expressed his admiration, but also to add something tangible. in the effort of the Ukrainians.

British security officials say they are reluctant to approve a trip by the prime minister to a war zone.

A newspaper source, however, notes that Boris Johnson “wants to go” if the details can be settled.

“Leaving aside the security concerns that are important, the question is whether there is anything additional that could be achieved with a visit or whether it would simply be a show of solidarity – and whether that is an adequate goal in itself.” added the same source.

In statements to the Sunday Times, the British Prime Minister said, among other things, that he has a “very strong desire” to help the Ukrainian President in any way he can. “Whether (a visit) would be a useful way to show my support, I do not know, but it is of great strategic, political, economic and moral importance for Putin to fail and for Zelensky to succeed,” he added.

On Sunday night, Messrs. Johnson and Zelensky had another phone call. According to Downing Street, the British Prime Minister asked the Ukrainian President for a new assessment of the military needs of his forces. Mr Johnson has pledged to promote Ukraine’s interests to NATO and G7 allies later in the week and to bilateral covert contacts.
