“I think we have excellent discussions with Americans,” said Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski
Relationships between Kiev and Washington were “back on their way back,” the head of Ukraine’s staff told Reuters after a frontal attack on the Oval Office last month between US leaders and Ukraine.
As Reuters reports, Andriy Yermak said that two rounds of talks for a possible ceasefire, held in Saudi Arabia, gave Kiev the opportunity to show US officials that it is open to cooperate with US President Donald.
Yermak, head of Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski, said this is contrary to the Russian negotiating approach, which, he said, included the imposition of conditions on a peacekeeping agreement.
“I think we have excellent discussions with Americans”Yermak said in an interview with his office in Kyiv on Tuesday. “I think we’ve got our way before.”
It is recalled that the meeting held on February 28 at the White House between Zelenski and Trump led to a frontal conflict between them, with Trump and Vice President JD Vance saying that the Ukrainian leader showed disrespectful.
Since then, Kiev has begun an effort to rescue their relationships, starting with a phone call on March 19 between Trump and Zelenski, which Yermak described as “excellent”.
It is not clear so far whether Kiev’s approach will lead to specific results from the talks that Ukraine is seeking or whether Trump’s desire to build closer ties with Moscow.
Describing talks in Saudi Arabia, where US officials are trying to mediate agreements with Russian and Ukraine delegations, Yermak said. “We showed that we are very serious, the Americans understood.”
“Dear American friends, you understand that we are partners. That was our goal. “
On the contrary, he said: “Russia is just playing games.”
Moscow, for its part, has stated that it has been committed to achieving peace and has accused Kiev of undermining the process by launching attacks on Russia.
