No ceasefire agreement has been reached in Ukraine, the Elysee Palace said in a statement after French President Emmanuel Macron spoke separately with his Russian and Ukrainian counterparts on Tuesday.
“At the moment there is no agreement, but the President [Μακρόν] “He remains convinced of the need to continue his efforts,” Elize said.
“There is no other way out “from the ceasefire and the good faith negotiations between Russia and Ukraine,” Paris said.
According to the Elysee, the communication between Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin lasted about an hour.
Since the war first broke out on February 24, Macron has maintained open channels of communication with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Including today’s phone calls, Macron has spoken to Putin eight times and to Zelensky 17 times since the start of the Russian invasion last month, according to CNN estimates.
New sanctions against Russia, and tightening of existing oneswill be imposed by Joe Biden and the US allies during the visit of the American president in Brussels, announced today, Tuesday, the National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
The US president is leaving tomorrow, Wednesday, for Brussels, where he will have contacts with NATO allies, G7 leaders and the European Union.
