London, Thanasis Gavos
One more military analyst in Britain estimated that the pounding of Mariupol by the Russians at a time when the other fronts have stagnated indicates a deliberate one change of tactics from Moscow.
THE James Bronk from its prestigious military research institute London RUSI stated in BBC how it is absolutely obvious that the Russians have fail to understand their original goals revealed by the multiple axes of invasion of Ukrainian territory.
“It simply came to our notice then to withdraw their military resourcesto unite them and focus them on one attack at a time, especially around Mariupol and the south“, Estimated the British analyst.
He went on to say that if the Mariupolthen the Russians they may divert these resources, that is, forces and ammunition, first to Donbas in the east and then to Kharkiv in the northeast.
At the same time, however, he noted, Moscow’s plans for its occupation Kiev may be damaged due to Ukrainian counterattacksin areas such as Irpin and Makariv and this may mean a new change of tactics.
“In essence, this is what Ukrainian forces are trying to do cut off an entire side of the siege of Kiev what the Russians are trying to do, something that would force the Russians to either turn to north and leave these positions or change the course of major battle forces to try to break the Ukrainian resistance“, Concluded Mr. Bronk in his analysis.
Speaking on BBC radio at the same time, General Sir Adrian Branco, his former Deputy Military Commander NATOestimated that it is unlikely the Russians would stop the attacks on Mariupol until they establish a land connection between Russia and Crimea.
He added that his view is that Putin does not want toi regime change in Kyiv and that it is clear that he will step up his efforts to achieve his goals so that he can declare victory on the front addressed to the Russian people.
He also commented that Putin had, in fact, warned NATO that member states, especially the Baltic states, were in his sights, and that at Thursday’s summit, Alliance leaders should show “strength, unity and determination”.
Meanwhile, according to Downing Street, in the morning cabinet meeting, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson told his ministers that the West “should not hesitate to go further in strengthening sanctions and providing more military defense assistance to Ukraine.”
“Putin’s actions have already violated the threshold of barbarism.”
