The Russian Ministry of Defense said on Saturday in a statement to Telegram that its troops occupied the village of Olsia, near the border with Ukraine. Kremlin forces are still trying to recapture the village of Gornal, the last Ukrainian army refuge in the area, the Russian state -run TASS news agency said.
The Ukrainian authorities have not confirmed the loss of Olsia. It is recalled that the troops of Kiev occupied part of the Kursk area in a surprise attack in August.
The occupation of Russian territory earlier provided Ukraine a potential negotiating paper in the possible exchange of territories, as US President Donald Trump is pushing for an agreement that will end the full -scale Russia invasion that launched in February 2022.
However, by mid -March, the Russian forces had greatly recaptured the territories occupied by the Ukrainian forces in August, reducing Ukraine’s hopes for land exchange.
