Son of King Charles 3rd and Princess Diana, Prince Harry lost his second appeal in the court dispute against the UK to maintain police protection offered to active royal members. For months he has contested the changes made by the British government after resigning real duties with his wife, Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex.
In a decision announced on Friday (2), Judge Geoffrey told you that Harry’s defense presented powerful and moving arguments, but without strength in the legal aspect.
“It was clear that the Duke of Sussex was mistreated by the system, but concluding, having studied the details of the extensive documentation, that I cannot say that his feeling of complaint translated into a legal argument to contest the decision,” he said.
The prince appeared to the London Appeal Court in early April to be heard again after losing an appeal at first instance on April 15. The first negative of the process came in February.
Among Harry’s lawyers’ arguments are that he has suffered threats, he was “dangerously persecution by paparazzi” and “al-Qaeda asked for his murder.”
“There is a person whose safety, protection and life are at stake. His presence here and throughout this audience is a powerful illustration of how much this appeal means to him and his family,” said lawyer Shaheed Fatima. The prince also claimed that the lack of guarantees to his safety is an obstacle for him to travel to the UK.
Harry moved to the United States with his family in 2020 when he lost routine police protection. From then on, the British Interior Ministry indicated security measures on a case by case basis, according to the type of situation and exposure to Harry and his family to be exposed.
The hearings took place at closed doors to maintain information about the security of the prince and the potential threats to which it may be exposed.
